MUTV pundits in complete agreement over Man Utd star who was ‘different class’ against Athletic Club, ‘Very tough…’

Manchester United are into the Europa League final after a whirlwind final 20 minutes against Athletic Club.

It was a night when Ruben Amorim’s heart will have been in his mouth at times as Athletic Club threatened to make a comeback for large periods of the game.

Ernesto Valverde’s side held a 1-0 advantage in the 70th minute, but a resilient Manchester United sparked into life and scored four in the final 20 minutes to put the result beyond all doubt.

It was Mason Mount who kicked it all off with an excellent finish into the far corner on the swivel, before the goal was quickly followed up by Casemiro, who made it 2-1 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate.

Athletic Club then crumbled, conceding a third as Amad Diallo made light work of the defence, handing Rasmus Hojlund the easiest goal he will score all season.

It was already over by this stage, but Mount added a second for good measure, as he took advantage of the Bilbao keeper being caught out of position as he scored from near the halfway line.

It was another brilliant night in Europe for United with a 4-1 win on the night, making it 7-1 on aggregate, and it saw one man in particular lauded with praise.

MUTV pundits agree on excellent Mason Mount performance

On Thursday night, Mount’s career for United truly sparked into life, as two years after his £55m move, he finally wrote a page in the history books at Old Trafford as he grabbed his third goal in two games.

Afterwards, pundits David May and Wes Brown were discussing Mount’s performance on MUTV, as they heaped praise onto the Englishman.

May began by issuing his verdict on the No.10, “Do you know what, I am so pleased for him, he’s had a torrid season with injuries, but he’s come back at the right stage of the season obviously.”

Continuing, the former United player raved about the technique Mount showed to score his second goal in particular.

“There is having the skill to do it, but I’ll tell you what, the execution, two fantastic goals, great tekkers.” May then picked out his three key performers, “Casemiro, Bruno, and then Mason coming on was a different class, so good.”

Adding to this, Brown also praised the goal Mount managed to score, explaining how difficult it is to do.

“He’ll have gotten a lot of confidence from his first goal and he can play football now. It’s not about thinking about it, everyone knows he can do it.

“He knows if he gets good contact on it, it’s going in and it was some contact. Getting skim on it but also making sure it was on target, very tough skill that.”

Mason Mount showing he has a future at Manchester United

On commentary for TNT Sports, Robbie Savage declared this to be the best 30 minutes of football Mount will have played in his entire career, and that might very well be true.

Everything Mount touched turned to gold, as his stats from the game are displayed by SofaScore showcase.

Mount not only scored twice but also completed every pass he attempted, every dribble, and four duels; he was an absolute monster in those 28 minutes.

If the 26-year-old can perform like this on a regular basis, then there is no denying that he has a huge future at Old Trafford under Amorim. Hopefully, this is the first night of many in which he does the number seven shirt justice.
