Nigerian table tennis sensation Taiwo Mati has declared himself physically and mentally ready for the upcoming World Table Tennis Championships, expressing confidence that he will make a strong impression on his debut appearance at the tournament. The 20-year-old, who is part of a Nigeria squad ranked second in Africa and 26th globally in the team event, will be among the key figures as the country seeks to improve on its disappointing outing at the 2024 edition held in South Korea.“I’m positive and looking forward to participating in the tournament and giving my best for the team,” Mati told Flashscore.“This is going to be a team event, not like the regular singles World Championship, and it will be my first time playing at the World Team Championships.“So far, so good. I’ve been preparing well, playing a lot of matches and doing a lot of physical exercises. I’ve also been speaking with my psychologist, and I’m sure that will help me a lot.“I’m preparing really well and, talking about the mental aspect, I’m in a good state and mentally fit,” he added. The 2026 International Table Tennis Federation World Team Table Tennis Championships will be held in London from April 28 to May 10, 2026, marking the centenary of the inaugural tournament.
