Coach Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract with the Spanish men’s football team till 2028, the RFEF (Spanish FA) announced on Monday.The tactician led Spain to the European Championship 2024 title after beating England 2-1 in the summit clash. The now 63-year-old also led La Roja to 2022-23 UEFA Nations League triumph.“The RFEF is committed to the continuity of the coach who led Spain to victory in the last edition of the European Championship and the UEFA Nations League,” the federation announced on X.De la Fuente’s tryst with Spain started in 2013 when he was appointed the head coach of the U-19 team. The former full-back achieved success with Spain’s age-group teams.This included winning the U-19 European Championship in 2015, the U-21 European Championship in 2019, and clinching silver at the Tokyo Olympics with the country’s U-23 side.In 2022, he was made the senior team’s head coach after Luis Enrique was sacked following Spain’s Round of 16 exit in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.Next up for de la Fuente and Co. will be facing the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals, with both legs scheduled to be played on March 21 and 24.
