RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State has landed its first five-star prospect in nearly a decade with Matthew Able becoming the first high school commit of the Will Wade era. The No. 26 player in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, made his commitment official on Saturday after taking an official visit to the Wolfpack one week earlier. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard was originally committed to Miami, but opted to re-open his recruitment following the coaching change for the Hurricanes. Able chose NC State over the likes of Texas, Alabama, Stanford, Tennessee, Michigan, Baylor and double-digit other offers from around the country. So what sold him on the Wolfpack less than two weeks after Wade was officially hired?"It was all about coach Wade's vision," Able told Pack Pride. "His idea and plan for me and what he wanted really stood out. I just really enjoyed it in Raleigh. The campus was really nice and the facilities were really nice. The opportunity that's there and [Wade] as a person made me want to visit."Able marks the first five-star commit for the Wolfpack since Dennis Smith Jr. during the 2016 class. The Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Sagemont Prep School standout has built a reputation as one of the best scorers in the county, but still has room to grow, according to Adam Finkelstein of CBS Sports/247Sports."Able is a well-built wing with broad shoulders and a very sturdy frame that is only going to keep filling out," Finkelstein said. "He has somewhat unorthodox mechanics for someone who makes threes in bunches, with just a slight hop into a noticeable twisting motion, but nevertheless a fluid release and soft ball. While the jumper looked like the first domino in his attack, he showed the versatility to also make mid-range shots off the dribble and solid athleticism in the open floor."The other thing that was very noteworthy, was Able's excellent left hand. He was equally comfortable, not just putting the ball on the floor to both sides, but even dunking with both hands. He also showed good perimeter footwork off the catch and was a competitive defender."Pack Pride will have more on Able's commitment to the Wolfpack throughout the coming days. Not a VIP subscriber to Pack Pride?
