By ATP StaffGrigor Dimitrov’s Wimbledon exit due to injury was one of the most heartbreaking scenes on a tennis court in recent memory, but the Bulgarian’s path to recovery has already begun.Dimitrov, who was forced to retire due to a pectoral muscle injury sustained when he led Jannik Sinner by two sets to love in the fourth round at the grass major, sent a defiant message to fans via social media on Friday.“Sometimes the heart wants to keep going… but the universe has a different plan for us,” wrote Dimitrov in a post on Instagram, which included a photo of himself in a hospital bed. “Having to withdraw from this match at Wimbledon was one of the most painful moments of my career.“Thank you for the overwhelming wave of love — from family, friends, fans, colleagues, to the entire tennis community… your messages have genuinely lifted me through these hard times. The 2017 Nitto ATP Finals champion has notched 11 of those victories at ATP Masters 1000 events, but he has now retired due to injury from the past four Grand Slam tournaments, including at January's Australian Open (groin injury) and in May at Roland Garros (leg injury).
