A packed BCA Stadium in Vadodara witnessed a nostalgic performance from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who rolled back the years with a masterful knock during a high-scoring International Masters League (IML) The 2025 showdown between India Masters and Australia Masters.

Despite a stellar effort from Australia Masters, with Shane Watson (110) and Ben Dunk (132) leading their team to a commanding 95-run victory, it was Tendulkar’s elegant strokeplay that captured the imagination of the crowd. His quickfire 64 off just 33 balls, which included seven boundaries and four towering sixes, had the fans on their feet. The highlight of his innings came when he launched pacer Ben Hilfenhaus for a stunning straight six a shot that not only thrilled spectators but also left Watson reminiscing. The Australian skipper later described it as the ‘shot of the night.’

“We won the match, but for me, the highlight was Sachin’s shot of the night. That straight drive took me back 15 years in an instant. When he sent that ball for six, I think everyone on the field was secretly applauding. Two shots stood out his straight drive for six and the cover drive for six. You could see how much that meant to him; he lowered his head right after, as if saying, ‘I’ve been waiting to play that one.’ It was a joy to witness,” Watson reflected after the match.

The ongoing inaugural season of the IML has been a treat for cricket fans, offering a rare chance to see some of the game’s all-time greats back in action. The tournament’s grand final will take place in Raipur on March 16.

He also praised the competitive nature of the tournament, saying, “It feels incredible to be back on the field, facing someone like Sachin Tendulkar and watching him at his best it was unbelievable. Getting the chance to bat, reunite with my former Australian teammates, and be part of this tournament is truly special. The standard of cricket has been exceptional, and if this doesn’t entertain the fans, I don’t know what will.”

Chasing a challenging target of 270, India Masters were ultimately bowled out for 174, with Xavier Doherty putting in a match-winning performance, claiming five wickets for just 25 runs.
