Rinku Singh's Father's Death More Heartbreaking With New Detail

Tragedy stops for no one. Sadly, no one knows this better than Rinku Singh of India’s cricket team, who is currently competing in the 2026 T20 World Cup. India has one match left in the Super 8 group before the semi-final and final matches.

Khanchand Singh passed away earlier on February 27th, at the age of 54, after a long battle with Stage 4 liver cancer. Following the last rites, Rinku will join his T20 Cricket team in Kolkata on February 28th.

Early on February 27th, a spokesperson for Yatharth Hospital (in Greater Noida) revealed what his last days were like.

“His condition had deteriorated significantly in recent days, following which he had been admitted to the hospital on February 21. He was placed on ventilator support and breathed his last early this morning,” Dr. Sunil Kumar said.

A video of Rinku attending his father’s last rites is making the rounds on social media. In the video, Rinku is visibly emotional while being one of many people carrying his father’s body.

The caption on the X post reads (translated into English), “Tears in the eyes, father’s bier on the shoulders… The news of the demise of cricketer Rinku Singh’s father is extremely heartbreaking. In this difficult time, the entire nation’s sympathies are with Rinku and his family. May God grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear this sorrow.”

Many have offered tribute to the cricketer’s family and friends on their loss. Specifically, Indian international cricket player Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt message.

“Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti,” Kohli wrote.

Many cricket fans, IPL teams, and other figures shared their messages of condolences following the passing of Rinku’s father.

Rinku Singh is Engaged to Marry Priya Saroj

Perhaps one of the most heartbreaking details of this tragedy involves an event that is yet to take place.

The news outlet Patrika reports that Rinku was engaged to Priya Saroj on June 8th, 2025. The wedding is scheduled for June 2026. Suffering the loss of a loved one is hard enough as it is. It must be even more heartbreaking, considering that Rinku will marry Priya without his father physically attending the joyous event.

“Wedding preparations (are) progressing rapidly. The entire event will be managed by a professional event company,” Patrika reports. “Rinku’s cricket schedule is very busy. The wedding date had to be postponed multiple times due to the IPL and international matches. Now, the wedding is fixed for June 2026.”

Who is Priya Saroj?

Saroj is an elected member of the Indian Parliament. She is in her first term, which started in 2024. The 27-year-old made history by becoming the youngest woman MP elected, at 25.
