Arsenal are set to complete their first piece of summer business with the permanent exit of Nuno Tavares.

Tavares, 25, left the Gunners to join Lazio on loan last summer. He hit the ground running at the Stadio Olimpico, grabbing eight assists in his first eight Serie A matches.

Although Tavares has struggled with injuries across the second half of the season, his time at Lazio is considered as a success and the Italian club are anticipated to activate the buy option in his contract.

There is a clause in Tavares' loan deal that can see Lazio sign him for just £5.9-6.7million - and The Standard report that the I Biancocelesti are expected to take up that option and seal a permanent move.

Reports in Italy suggest that Lazio might look to offload and sell Tavares immediately, in the hope they can make some profit. Juventus and Everton are among the teams that have been linked with a move for the left-back.

Arsenal, however, would be covered by such scenario. football.london understands the Gunners have a sell-on clause in excess of 20 per cent if Lazio decide to cash in on Tavares.

This isn't the first time the Gunners have added sell-on clauses to benefit from future sales. Arsenal secured £2m from Mark McGuinness' £10m move from Cardiff to Luton after he came through the club's academy.

Mikel Arteta's side made a similar amount when Mika Biereth left Sturm Graz for Monaco in January, while they earned more than £2m after Omari Hutchinson moved from Chelsea to Ipswich Town a year ago.

Tavares is expected to be the first of several players to leave Arsenal this summer. Kieran Tierney's contract expires next month and he is set to return to Celtic on a free transfer. Jorginho's deal is also up in June and he is on the verge of agreeing a move to Brazilian side Flamengo.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has one year left on his contract and his long-term future is uncertain, with Borussia Dortmund keeping an eye on his situation. Leandro Trossard was the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia last summer and they could return with the Belgian having 12 months left on his deal.

Albert Sambi Lokonga has spent the season on loan at Sevilla and he is expected to leave on a permanent deal this summer, with the La Liga club boasting a £10m option to secure his services for good.

Thomas Partey, meanwhile, is another that could depart. However, the Gunners want to keep the Ghanaian, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Talks are ongoing between Arsenal and the midfielder's representatives over a deal to keep him at the club beyond the summer.
