Rohl to make Ibrox bow as Kilmarnock visit Govan

Rangers v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Later today, Rangers boss Danny Rohl makes his Premiership bow at Ibrox after a meek debut defeat at Brann on Thursday.

Now attention turns to arresting the club's alarming league start. After eight games, Rangers are eighth with one win.

Kilmarnock, licking their wounds after a 3-0 home defeat by Hearts last Saturday, are the visitors to Govan.

Rangers are yet to win a home league game this season. Their last Premiership victory at home came in May last term under former interim boss Barry Ferguson.

No-one thinks Rohl is walking into an easy job, but he will still be required to hit the ground running in order to get the fanbase onside.

The best way to do that, clearly, is by winning games. Sound the cliche klaxon, but home matches against sides like Kilmarnock should be Rangers' bread and butter.

The Ayrshire club beat the Ibrox side 12 months ago at Rugby Park, but they have not won at Ibrox since 2018.

Rodgers backs youth to succeed

Hearts v Celtic (12:00)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "Sometimes youth have no fear so you can put them in at the beginning of their careers and they can go and be bold, but also the talent they have.

"I think Dane [Murray] has been unfortunate not to have played a little bit more. He's worthy of a start. For balance as well, the balance of having a right footer and a left footer at centre-half helps us. I have no doubt in the two young players.

"There's still so much football to be played. In terms of Hearts they've had a really good start, we know the inconsistencies we've had, but I'm really pleased with how we played midweek, it's much more like a Celtic team I would want.

"I think there's a load of football to be played, no matter how it goes today, but of course you want to come here and show your quality and spirit.

"This is a big game in the domestic competition and we want to perform well."

As they stand

We can surely expect more movement in this congested table today.

Dundee were third at one point yesterday. Now they are 10th. This league, man.

Still feels surreal to see Rangers in eighth at this stage of a season. They could get up to fourth with a win today.

It would be equally as surreal to watch Hearts go eight points clear at the top, but Celtic will have other ideas.

Top-of-the-table showdown at Tynecastle

Hearts v Celtic (12:00)

Chat of a title challenge from Hearts is becoming more serious by the week, while Celtic appear to be on the verge of a crisis.

A "Range Rover Sport" performance in a win over Sturm Graz was much needed for Brendan Rodgers, but defeat today would stretch open a scarcely-believable eight-point advantage for Derek McInnes' side.

The reigning champions have been nowhere near their best, looking blunt in front of goal domestically amid continued protests aimed at the club's board from a disgruntled support.

The leaders have had a full week to prepare, while Celtic had to get a sweat on in midweek, so the visitors can surely expect an intense approach from the home side.

Rodgers last tasted defeat against Hearts in March 2024, which was a second straight loss to the Edinburgh club.

Since then, Celtic have swept aside their weekend opponents in their past four meetings with an aggregate score of 12-1.
