Chippa United have confirmed the sudden exit of Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali after four years at the club.

Nwabali, 29, has long been touted for a move away from the club after establisging himself as a number one goalkeeper for the Super Eagles and one of the leading stoppers in Africa.

He was linked with moves to England and Saudi Arabia, as well as Kaizer Chiefs in the domestic scene – but remained at the club over the past couple of seasons where he’s featured 76 times, with 25 clean sheets to his name.

The club announced the decision on Thursday morning after the player formally submitted a request to leave the club, which was granted by the Chilli Boyz with a mutual termination.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the club statement read.

“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated. The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavours.”

It remains to be seen where Nwabali will now be heading, with the player leaving the club outside the official transfer window period.
