Prizmic, McDonald Win In Straight Sets

World No. 119 Dino Prizmic of Croatia moved a step closer to his first Masters 1000 main draw in Stadium 6 on Monday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The 20-year-old broke open a close match and moved past 18-year-old Darwin Blanch, 7-6(3), 6-0 to reach the second round of qualifying.

The Split, Croatia native saved the first break point he faced on the day at 5-5 in the opening set and finished things off in a tiebreak before winning the next six games to close out his victory.

Northern California native Mackenzie McDonald made a strong first impression in the qualifying draw with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Ukrainian Vitaliy Sachko. No. 17-seeded McDonald is seeking his seventh career main draw appearance in Tennis Paradise.

Martin Landaluce, 20, scored the first upset of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over fifth-seeded Alexander Blockx of Belgium. The World No. 155, a former junior No. 1 who won the boys’ title at the US Open in 2022, will face Sho Shimabukuro in the final round of qualifying.

Shimabukuro defeated American Colton Smith, 7-6(5), 7-5.
