Man United told they can sign their own Mohamed Salah with £70m Christian Pulisic deal

Manchester United have been told by former player Tim Howard why they should go and sign Christian Pulisic from AC Milan this summer.

While signing a midfielder is the top priority for Manchester United this summer, the Red Devils could also be in the market for a left winger and Christian Pulisic has been linked with a move.

According to TeamTalk, intermediaries have held talks with United about a potential deal for Pulisic in the summer transfer window.

Pulisic idolised Wayne Rooney while growing up, so the 27-year-old would likely jump at the opportunity to follow in his hero’s footsteps at Old Trafford.

But the USA international is expected to cost £70 million. That would be a huge deal for Ineos to fund, but former United star Tim Howard believes Pulisic is well worth the risk.

Pulisic was linked with a move to United before he eventually joined Chelsea in 2019. Pulisic scored 26 goals in 145 appearances for the London club, so he hardly set the Premier League alight.

But Howard, speaking on Unfiltered Soccer, believes Pulisic can follow the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah by returning to the Premier League and becoming a superstar.

“I’m going to put him in a very high class here… Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah, we now know the finished products,” Howard said.

“When I say those names, people are going to go, ‘Huh? Those are two of the greatest players in Premier League history’, but I remember Kevin De Bruyne at Chelsea, I remember Mohamed Salah at Chelsea.

“They weren’t good enough, apparently, so they went abroad. Mohamed Salah went to Roma and Kevin De Bruyne went to Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg.

“They were the players that they were, they gained confidence, they did all those things, they came back to the Premier League and then it was game over, history was written.

“He’s put AC Milan on his back and he’s been the best player in that league so now I think, from the physical, football maturity-side, he now comes back to the Premier League, and he gets slotted into a Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, I think there’s actually another level for him.”

Christian Pulisic has been dominating the Serie A

Howard is not wrong about Pulisic’s form in Italy. AC Milan are chasing down arch-rivals Inter for the Serie A title and Pulisic is at the heart of their title challenge.

In 2025/26, Pulisic is joint with Rafael Leao as Milan’s top scorer, with eight goals this season.

Impressively, Pulisic has managed his eight-goal tally in just 900 minutes of football, making him one of the most productive forwards in Serie A per 90 minutes played.

There is no guarantee that he would carry that form into the Premier League given his previous struggles in England, and £70m would be a huge gamble on the US star.

But United do need strength out wide with Champions League qualification on the horizon, and Pulisic is currently one of the most in form wingers in Europe.
