Rams edged by Highlanders, 4-3Newark, N.J. – The Fordham women's tennis team was edged by NJIT, 4-3, on Sunday at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.The Rams opened play dropping the doubles point as NJIT took two of the three doubles matches. Paola Dalmonico and Catalina Padilla were the doubles winners for the Rams, taking third doubles from Diana Fernandez and Petra Koszo, 6-2.Fordham won three singles matches, taking the fourth through sixth positions. Valerija Kargina (Fordham) defeated Feyza Ebrar Aydin in straight sets at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0, while Julianne Nguyen also win in straight sets at sixth singles over Petra Koszo, 6-4, 6-1. At fifth singles, Lily Chitambar dropped the first set to Asima Sazan, 7-5, but came back to win the second, 6-2, and the tiebreaker.The Rams almost picked up points at first and third single, losing at both positions in three sets. At first singles Nevena Kolarevic dropped the first set to Laura Wipfli, 6-4, but won the second by the same score before dropping the third set, 7-6.
