Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Australian player Tim David has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the Indian Premier League’s Code of Conduct during the match against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on Sunday.

The IPL confirmed the sanction in an official statement, saying the offence fell under Level 1 of the code for players and team officials. The breach relates to Article 2.4, which covers failure to follow an umpire’s instructions during a match.

The first incident took place in the 18th over of RCB’s innings, when the umpires decided to change the ball. David asked to inspect it and delayed handing it back despite repeated requests.

A similar situation unfolded in the final over. He again held on to the ball and did not return it promptly, leading to a second breach of the same rule.

Match officials viewed the repeated delays as a clear violation of instructions on the field.

David accepted the charge and agreed to the penalty imposed by the match referee, bringing the matter to a close.
