PSV Eindhoven have not been convinced by Tyrell Malacia after signing the Manchester United left-back on loan in January. It was announced on 4 February that Tyrell Malacia had completed a loan move to PSV Eindhoven. The deal included an option to buy and United briefed at the time that the Dutchman’s wages were to be covered during the loan spell.Malacia had attracted interest from Benfica but an agreement could not be reached and he returned to his homeland, where he previously played for Feyenoord before joining United for £14.7m in 2022.United are currently well-stocked in the left-back department following the arrival of Patrick Dorgu and Luke Shaw’s return to fitness, on top of Diogo Dalot, who is versatile enough to play on both flanks. That makes it difficult to see Malacia having a future at United, especially when he has been unable to prove himself back at PSV after a horrid spell out with injuries at Old Trafford.Photo by Photo Prestige/Soccrates/Getty ImagesTyrell Malacia set for Manchester United returnPSV Eindhoven has only given Malacia three starts since he’s put his trust in Brazilian left-back Mauro Junior instead.Malacia has managed 10 appearances across all competitions, failing to register a goal or an assist for one of the most attacking teams in the league.More United NewsReports in the Netherlands claim PSV have not been convinced by Malacia during his spell on loan, which is likely to sell the full-back return to Old Trafford when is temporary deal expires at the end of the current season. That’s according to Eindovens Dagblad, as per Voetbal Primeur, who claim PSV will not take up the option to sign Malacia.Other United loanees have enjoyed better spells out on loan, including Antony and Marcus Rashford, but it turns out Malacia will be a difficult sale to pitch this summer.Rashford returned to playing Champions League football and left United during a turbulent campaign, although his future at Old Trafford remains up in the air, though Aston Villa have a £40m option to sign the striker.Man Utd clear-out takes a hitMalacia’s loan spell gave the Netherlands international a chance to redeem himself in his homeland, but it hasn’t gone as planned for all three parties.United would have preferred an easy deal in the summer and PSV would have wanted an improved left-back, but now Malacia will need to find a new club elsewhere.Malacia failed to find a natural spot in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system and he loaned to PSV in January and it’s unlikely that he will have a future at the club.PSV legend Rene Van de Kerkhof recently told Malacia to return to Manchester and the club’s former manager Aad de Mos claimed he was a ‘bad buy’. That means his reputation in Netherlands, as an international, ha been better. This means it will be difficult for United to sell Malacia in the summer unless someone takes a gamble on the left-back, despite his underwhelming spell back in the Netherlands. With PSV not taking up the option to sign Malacia permanently, it means United’s summer clear-out may take a hit.United will hope that doesn’t happen with other loanees.
