2025 proved to be a truly incredible comeback season for Marc Marquez. The #93 overcame years of injury struggles to claim his seventh MotoGP World Championship title, putting his remarkable achievement firmly in the international spotlight.The Spaniard has now been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, lining up alongside some of the biggest names in global sport. Among his fellow nominees are tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Olympic gold medal-winning pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, four-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar, and Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele. It is stiff competition, underlining the scale of Marquez’s achievement in reclaiming the world title in 2025.The #93 secured 11 victories from 17 race starts in 2025, alongside 14 Tissot Sprint wins, amassing 545 points to seal the Championship. Although injury ruled him out of the final five rounds of the campaign, he had already done enough to secure a seventh premier class crown and his first since 2019 – the year before his injury nightmare began.The 2024 season saw Marquez make a highly publicised departure from Honda after 11 years, switching to Gresini Racing on Ducati machinery before earning a factory Ducati ride for 2025. His decision put it “All on Red” paid off handsomely, and now his achievements are receiving global recognition.Marquez is no stranger to the Laureus Awards. He won the Breakthrough of the Year award following his 2014 title-winning rookie season and has since received four additional nominations across the Sportsman of the Year and Comeback of the Year categories.
