Ruben Amorim has a shock new Manchester United undroppable

1
Man United claimed a huge three points with their victory over Liverpool at Anfield, making it back-to-back Premier League wins for Ruben Amorim for the first time.

It's now more than 11 years since Luke Shaw's parents sat in a Brazilian hotel toasting their son becoming the most expensive teenager in world football.

Shaw had completed a £30m move from Southampton to Manchester United and his parents, Paul and Joanna, had travelled to Rio de Janeiro while he competed in his first major tournament, the 2014 World Cup. The champagne corks popped over Shaw's switch, but England's campaign in Brazil was miserable, KO'd at the group stage.

Shaw has been through a lot during his 11-plus years at United. Managers have come and gone.

His first, Louis van Gaal, effectively 'fat shamed' him. His second, Jose Mourinho, was left bewildered by what he saw as Shaw's immature approach to being a professional footballer at one of the world's biggest clubs. The Portuguese's fury stemmed from Shaw claiming he was late for training due to oversleeping - and blaming his mother for not waking him up.

There have been serious injuries, not least the horrendous double leg break in Eindhoven.

That leg break almost ended his career, while there have been numerous other serious injuries. Injuries saw him start just 20 league games in a two-year period.

The player himself has been through highs and bitter lows. He admits he has witnessed some 'toxic' times at the club, the shadow of the Sir Alex Ferguson era looming large over all who have come after.

But somehow, amid all the madness, the mayhem, the troubled times and the gaffers who haven't lasted, Shaw has survived. And on Sunday he played a leading role in helping United inflict a crushing defeat on bitter rivals Liverpool.

It was the first time since joining United he had been on the winning team at Anfield. His smile at full-time was a sight to behold as he enjoyed the raucous away end with his teammates.

Ruben Amorim will have been smiling too. Shaw, fully fit and at his best, is the perfect solution for Amorim's left-sided position in his back three. It's why he's brought him back ahead of schedule a few times already, and is now pressing ahead with Shaw as his No.1 in that spot.

Shaw's performance at Anfield deserves recognition. When fit and focused he can still produce the goods.
