FKF infighting puts AFCON 2027 in jeopardy, warns Aduda

Former Football Kenya Federation Chief Executive Officer Lodvick Aduda has warned that Kenya risks jeopardizing the hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations due to the escalating infighting currently rocking the federation.

An all-out power struggle has erupted within the federation, pitting President Hussein Mohammed against his estranged deputy McDonald Mariga in the wake of the alleged 2024 African Nations Championship insurance scandal.

And speaking on Sporty Monday, Citizen TV, Aduda instead called for order and sobriety to prevail before the situation spirals further out of control.

He added that the ongoing conflict is not only disheartening but will potentially damage Kenya's chances of successfully hosting the tournament in the coming months.

"We are a couple of months away from hosting the AFCON. Nine of the members of the NEC that are involved are also members of the Local Organizing Committee. How will we move?"

World football governing body FIFA has since acknowledged the situation and written to the FKF National Executive Committee seeking supporting documents after nine of its members moved to censure Mohammed and General Secretary Robert Gicheru.

Aduda emphasised the need for the internal dispute resolution mechanisms to get involved in bringing together both parties in a forum where they can present their evidence in a bid to solve the issue that may cost Kenya hosting rights.

FIFA has since written to the NEC, giving them a seven day window to produce evidence as well as attempt to resolve the conflict.

Furthermore the former CEO raised questions over the integrity over the alleged transfer of Ksh 42 million to Rickswell Insurance Brokers Limited, citing a need to verify the legality of the transaction as well as its compliance with regulations within the current FKF constitution.

With Kenya having been in a similar position before in 1996 where their hosting rights were stripped due to lack of readiness.
