WTC Final 2025, SA vs AUS Live Cricket Score Updates: South Africa were dominant in the first session and Australia find themselves four wickets down at the end of it with Steve Smith pretty much the only batter who has been able to navigate the Proteas pacers and fielders. Three of the four wickets that the Proteas took in the first session came thanks to brilliant catches from the slip fielders and wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne. Rabada and Marco Jansen, the frontline South African bowlers, shared four wickets evenly between each other.

South Africa put themselves in the driver’s seat early with Rabada picking two wickets in the seventh over and Jansen dismissing Marnus Labuschagne in the 18th. Rabada sent back Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green to put South Africa in front in the first hour. Australia are now hoping that Steve Smith and Travis Head can get them out of the ditch that they find themselves in early in the match at Lord’s. Rabada and Jansen ensured that Australia struggled to earn their runs in the opening exchanges. While this is the first time South Africa are playing in the WTC Final, Australia are the defending champions, beating India by 207 runs in the 2023 final at Lord’s.

Though the romantic choice would be for South Africa to win the contest, the favourites are Australia. Not only does South Africa lack experience in terms of the caps, but also most of the players have not played in England and at Lord’s. Kagiso Rabada, with 70 caps, is the most experienced player in South Africa, and captain Bavuma and Rabada are the only two players who have played over 50 games.

In Australia, this is a winning machine. The trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood have won everything there is to be. However, with their careers coming into the twilight, they would like to add another feather to their already filled cap.
