Tennis pro Aryna Sabalenka and boyfriend Georgios Frangulas got engaged on March 3.

According to Sabalenka, the proposal was a total surprise.

Her 12-carat, oval cut engagement ring could be worth up to $1 million, experts tell InStyle.

Aryna Sabalenka apparently had no idea that her boyfriend Georgios Frangulis was about to propose. But propose he did, on March 3, with a massive 12-carat diamond ring.

The engagement itself took place poolside, with dozens of candles and floral arrangements surrounding the couple. According to The Daily Mail, the ring was designed by Isabela Grutman, who worked with Frangulis for months to create the custom sparkler.

The ring features a 12-carat, oval cut diamond, which is surrounded by emeralds set in platinum, People reports. Emeralds are, apparently, Sabalenka’s favorite jewel, but the details of the ring were Frangulis’s idea. The jewelry designer called it “a personal touch that makes the ring uniquely hers.”

Experts tell InStyle that Sabalenka’s ring could be worth up to $1 million. “The brand curves inward with micro-pavé diamonds and a sculptural precision that feels both architectural and fluid,” says Pamela Catlett, chief brand officer at Brilliant Earth. “A natural stone of this size and quality could be valued at $1 million.”

Olivia Landae, founder and CEO of The Clear Cut, made a similar estimate. In an interview with InStyle she placed its value between $500,000 and $1 million. “It is the perfect combination of traditional and modern,” she says. “The classic pavé solitaire leans into modern trends with its subtle curved band detail and the hidden pop of green.”

In a video shared on her Instagram, the tennis pro said: “Well guys, everything happened, but just look how I look," she said, in reference to her laid-back jeans-and-a-T-shirt outfit. To this, Frangulis sweetly responded, “Pretty as fuck.” In announcing their engagement, Sabalenka wrote: “I can finally call him something else…FIANCÉ 💍.”

Sabalenka and Frangulis began dating in March 2024, shortly after the death of Sabalenka’s late boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov. “There was a really tough period where I was really happy to have [Frangulis] by my side, always cheering me up, always making sure that we are doing some fun stuff,” Sabalenka told People in 2024. “He was my biggest support,” she said.
