Eleven days of play at tennis’ 2026 Miami Open has whittled down the field of 96 players, leaving only World No. 4 Coco Gauff and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the hunt for the women’s singles title.

Gauff, born mere miles down the road in Delray Beach, has shown no shortage of determination on her way to the final, winning four of her last five matches in three sets, including a primetime showdown with Tokyo 2020 women’s singles champion Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals.

While she’s never topped the draw at the WTA 1000-level tournament, the U.S. tennis ace will certainly hope to ride the crowd’s support to a career-first in the Sunshine State. That said, she’ll face a stiff challenge against Sabalenka.

Fresh off her tenth WTA 1000-level win at Indian Wells, the 27-year-old from Minsk has made quick work of the draw, winning all five her matches in straight sets, including a re-match of the Indian Wells final against World No. 3 Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals.

With the 13th meeting between the pair set to begin no sooner than 15:00 local time (GMT-4) on Saturday (28 March), anticipation is quickly building.

Tied at 6-6 in 12 matches, this encounter will help break the difference between two of the top players in women’s single tennis at the moment.

The pair have yet to come face-to-face on court this season, but Sabalenka won their last meeting at the 2025 WTA Finals in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-2.

Before that, Gauff beat the World No. 1 at the 2025 French Open, coming back from a set down to claim the women’s singles title 6(5)-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Both players have only won back-to-back matches against each other on a single occasion, with Sabalenka being the latest to do so in 2024.
