Adam Wharton Hints at Crystal Palace Future With Gesture in Eberechi Eze Video

Adam Wharton has seemingly made his feelings known regarding a possible Crystal Palace departure amid speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old is one of English football's most in-demand midfield talents, having flourished since arriving at Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024. His impressive displays for the Eagles earned him a call-up to England's squad for Euro 2024.

Wharton has continued to catch the eye and has been touted as a possible Carlos Baleba alternative for United. It's claimed that the Red Devils have made enquiries about a potential deal for the young Englishman.

Wharton was spotted in training along with Eberechi Eze, who is the subject of a transfer tug-of-war between North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners have reportedly hijacked the Lilywhites' deal for the attacker and he prefers a move to the Emirates.

Eze might not be the last player to depart Selhurst Park before the transfer window closes on September 1, but Wharton seems keen to stay put. He seemingly gestured his stance over his future while preparing for the Eagles' Europa Conference League play-off clash with Fredrikstad FK on Thursday.

Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill was covering the training session and discussing players' situations, including Wharton's. He was within "arm's length" of the Englishman and his compatriot, Eze, before stating, "I'm not going to ask Adam Wharton about his future, no."

Wharton responded to this by adjusting his training vest to display the 'Palace' name printed on the back of his shirt. This seemed to signify that he doesn't expect to be going anywhere despite talk over a potential transfer in the final days of the window.

Palace fans will justifiably feel that Oliver Glasner is building a successful team that should be able to persuade big names to join them rather than depart. The South London outfit spends much of the summer dealing with their star players linked with big-money moves away.

Eze does seem likely to depart before deadline day, while Marc Guehi has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Liverpool. But Wharton is a player whom Glasner can continue to build his team around and will be looking to use the Europa Conference League as a springboard for consistent European competition.

Manchester United's recruitment team have been forced to explore alternatives to Baleba after being informed that the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder isn't for sale. One player whom the Red Devils have long admired is Wharton, although a potential deal for the three-cap England international won't be cheap.

Reports claim he could cost upwards of £70m, and that fee will likely only rise should Eze leave, as Steve Parish will be keen to ensure Glasner has a squad strong enough to compete domestically and in Europe.

A potential deal for Wharton seems just as unlikely as one for Baleba, and it feels as though any plan to lure the holding midfielder away from Selhurst Park will have to come in the long-term.
