Three Pick Up Liberty League Weekly Honors; Six to Honor Rolls

TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League champion women's basketball team swept the Liberty League weekly honors and women's tennis picked up its first recognition of the spring season, while six more student-athletes were recognized by the Liberty League with honor roll spots for the week ending March 1, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Women's Basketball Performer of the Week: Grace Ardito

Ardito was named Most Outstanding Performer of the Liberty League Tournament after averaging 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game to lead Union to its first conference championship since 2004. The senior exploded for a career-high 28 points with eight boards in Friday's 79-68 semifinal victory over St. Lawrence, then went for 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals in Sunday's 81-70 title-game win over RIT.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week: Ryley Tate-Padian

Tate-Padian put up 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench in 17 minutes of action in Friday's Liberty League Tournament semifinal victory over St. Lawrence, and she hit her only shot attempt on Sunday as Union clinched the Liberty League championship.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week: Megan McCusker

McCusker earned Union's first singles point of the day in Friday's win over Division II Saint Michael's with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at third singles over Emma Gredenhag. She won the first three games and the last three games to take the opening set with ease, then built up a 5-2 lead in the second set on the way to the victory.

Honor Roll Mentions:

Men's Tennis: Solen Bellemare

Bellemare earned a 7-5, 6-0 second-singles victory over Viktor Boban of Saint Michael's on Friday, coming back from 4-5 down in the first set to win the final three games and then running off six straight in the second set.

Men's Tennis: Jesus Sosa and Arhan Gupta

Sosa and Gupta earned a 6-1 victory at first doubles on Friday against Saint Michael's, winning the first five games on the way to the win.

Women's Tennis: Claire Langille andSkylar Semon

Langille and Semon lost only five points in six games in posting a 6-0 second-doubles win over Olivia Larsen and Ana Maria Ricuarte of Saint Michael's. After cruising through the first five games with no more than one point lost in any of them, the pair fought back from 0-40 in the sixth game to win four straight points and complete the sweep. Semon also earned Union's third point of the day by posting a 6-3, 6-1 win at second singles over Larsen, winning five of the final six games to come back and take the opening set, then winning the first five games of the second set on the way to the win.

Women's Indoor Track & Field: Ashley Sheldon

Sheldon earned 15 points for Union in two events over a matter of minutes on Saturday at the Liberty League Championships, switching between the high jump and the 60-meter hurdles. After clearing her first three heights (1.53m, 1.58m and 1.63m) on the first try, Sheldon – in the middle of the high jump competition – took some time off to break the school record in the 60-meter hurdles for the second straight day, flying down the track in 9.04 seconds to surpass her prelim time of 9.11 seconds and earn a fourth-place finish. Immediately after the event, she quickly switched shoes and went back to the high jump, where she leaped over the 1.68m bar on her second attempt to clinch her second conference indoor title in three years.
