Man Utd tracking 'top young talent' Dylan Lawlor, have been tracking him for years

There has been a major push to improve Manchester United’s youth system since Ineos took control of football operations.

Manchester United have a world-renowned academy after producing some of the best footballers the world has seen.

From George Best to Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham. The United Academy has historically been one of the best in the world.

United have invested a lot in youth players since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner, with players like Chido Obi and Sekou Kone arriving to bolster the youth teams. Members of the hierarchy and Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff will hope that these players will eventually compete for a place in United’s first team.

One of the most recent youth arrivals was Enzo Kana-Biyik, joining from Le Havre in France before being sent on loan to Lausanne in Switzerland.

United will continue their search for the best young players in the game this season, with scouts expected to be busy over the coming months.

Man Utd track Cardiff City starlet Dylan Lawlor

United football director Jason Wilcox has an eye for emerging talent, which explains how the club has been able to change its approach to signing young players.

Matheus Cunha was the oldest player to sign for United this summer, aged 26, suggesting that Ineos want to avoid players who are past their best.

Previous recruitment teams at United signed players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, despite accepting their best years were behind them. That has not been the case since Ratcliffe bought a minority share of the club.

United In Focus understands that United have been tracking Cardiff youngster Dylan Lawlor for several years, after watching him come through the Wales youth ranks.

Lawlor’s recent progress has seen him become a first team regular for Cardiff City and a full senior international.

The 19-year-old central defender has made fewer than a dozen appearances for Cardiff, but Wales boss Craig Bellamy had no hesitation in starting him in their crucial World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan.

Lawlor helped Wales to a 1-0 victory, playing a major role in the clean sheet.

Cardiff have already rewarded Lawlor with a new deal – which he signed in August – as recognition as a first-team player.

We can confirm that United, who have good relations with Cardiff and are well-versed on their youth talent – having lured Gabriele Biancheri to Old Trafford in 2023.

In conversation with UiF, Graeme Bailey said: “United are not the only major club who are aware of Lawlor, but few have been on his trail as long as they have – I am told he has been on their radar for sometime and they are not actually surprised by his progress.

“Lawlor, though, is not in a hurry to leave Cardiff and United and his suitors are aware of that, but he is one to keep an eye on. He really is a top young talent, potentially a special one.”

What Craig Bellamy said about Lawlor?

Six days after signing a new three-year deal at Cardiff, Lawlor got the nod to join the Wales squad travelling to Astana.

Lawlor replaced Joe Rodon in the team and earned high praise from Bellamy after the match.

“Beyond impressed,” Bellamy said of Lawlor, as quoted by The Independent. “What a player.

“He was so just so impressive, and we needed him to be because we were fully aware of the pull-outs.

“Joe Rodon was gone and there’s times you look and think, ‘how are we going to cope without Joe because he’s such an immense player for us?’

“This helps. We have the sort of player underneath him now, (who is) going to rival everyone.

“He’s a big plus to come out of this, we gained a big player from this.”
