Logan Hammer Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the WeekShare:Track and Field 3/2/2026 1:36:00 PMLOGAN, Utah – Utah State track and field senior Logan Hammer has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, March 1. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.Hammer won the Mountain West title in the pole vault at the Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend, clearing 5.50 meters (18-0.5). The three-time All-American won his third-straight indoor pole vault title and sixth MW gold medal overall. Against the Aztecs, Falslev scored 14 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists, while shooting 5-of-13 from the floor, 2-of-4 from deep and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Against the Lopes, he totaled 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal, shooting 4-of-9 from the field, 1-of-3 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. For the week, Falslev averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.5 steals per game, while shooting 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from the field, 42.9 percent (3-of-7) from 3-point range and 100.0 percent (4-of-4) at the free throw line.WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Junior guard Aaliyah Gayles (Las Vegas, Nevada) led the Aggies with 15.5 points per game last week during a pair of Mountain West losses to New Mexico (54-69) and at Boise State (59-75). Against the Lobos, Gayles scored a team-high 15 points while adding four rebounds and one steal. Gayles also led the Aggies in scoring against the Broncos, finishing with 16 points plus three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Gayles did much of her damage from the free throw line on the week, going 10-of-12 from the charity stripe across the two games.GYMNASTICS – Junior Nyla Morabito (Welland, Ontario, Canada) won a share of the floor title with a season-high 9.850 and tied for second on vault with a career-high-tying 9.850 to help Utah State to a 196.025-195.825 home win against Air Force last weekend. With the victory, USU claimed at least a share of the Mountain West Regular Season Championship. For her career, Morabito now has 17 titles (9 vault, 7 floor, 1 beam).SOFTBALL – Freshman infielder Kate Vance (Chandler, Arizona) led Utah State in a 1-4 showing at the Beehive Classic in St. George, Utah, over the weekend as the Aggies earned a win against Southern Utah (W, 2-1) with losses to Utah Valley (L, 1-10 (5); L, 7-13), Utah (L, 0-11 (5) and Utah Tech (L, 0-4). Vance began the week by going 1-for-2 against SUU. In the first game against UVU, she went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. She then went 0-for-2 against Utah, followed by a 2-for-4 performance in the second game against UVU. with a double, two RBIs and one walk. Vance closed out the week with an 0-for-3 performance against Utah Tech. In total, Vance hit .333 (4-for-13) on the week with two doubles, three RBIs and a base on balls. She had a .385 on base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage. In the field, Vance had four putouts and eight assists with one error.WOMEN'S TENNIS – Sophomore Maria Paula Ramos Garcia (Guatemala City, Guatemala) posted a 4-0 weekend across singles and doubles play during the Aggies' 7-0 sweep of College of Idaho and a 4-3 loss to Idaho. Against the Coyotes, Ramos Garcia earned a 6-0 win alongside Chahd Tourkhani at No. 3 doubles to set the tone in the Aggie victory. Ramos Garcia then completed an unblemished day with a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles action at the No. 2 position. Against the Vandals, Ramos Garcia again proved dominant in doubles alongside Tourkhani, earning a 6-1 victory at the third position to help clinch the doubles point to begin the match. She then concluded her weekend with a hard-fought 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory at the fourth position of the singles lineup.WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD – Sophomore Shay Jones (Plano, Texas) tied the Utah State record in the women's 400 meters with a time of 53.05 at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend, winning her heat and placing fourth overall in the event final. Jones's time tied two-time Canadian Olympian and three-time All-American LaDonna Antoine-Watkins's standard, which was set in 1994. She later anchored the Aggies' 4x400-meter relay team that finished in 3:39.62, setting the second-best time in USU history behind only the 1994 squad anchored by Antoine-Watkins.
