Masters LIVE: Lifetime ban calls over Rory McIlroy incident as ex-winner refuses to leave

The final day of the Masters is almost upon us - the leaderboard is tight and the pressure is rising as Rory McIlroy faces a challenge to retain his title.

The final day of the Masters is certain to bring its twists and turns, with Rory McIlroy tied for the lead alongside Cameron Young at ‑11 heading into the last round. McIlroy had entered the weekend at Augusta National with the largest 36‑hole lead in Masters history.

The reigning champion followed up a five‑under 67 on Thursday with a superb 65 on Friday to reach -12, opening up a six‑shot advantage at the halfway stage. But his +1 on Saturday means it is now all to play for on the final day following Young's stunning round. Elsewhere, Sam Burns and Shane Lowry remain firmly in the hunt at ‑10 and ‑9 respectively.

That is it for Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler finishes his round with a par at the 18th to ensure he ends with a four-under 68.

There was no drop shots for the world No.1, who recorded four birdies and 14 pars across his final round.

It might not prove to be enough - with the American 11-under and two off the lead - but he has once again impressed and will be pleased with his performance.

Par for McIlroy

Rory McIlroy hits a steady putt up to the hole and leaves him with a tap in for a par at the 15th.

He remains two in front of the chasing pack with three holes to go, with Scottie Scheffler (-11) and Justin Rose (-11) behind.

Meanwhile, Cameron Young has a birdie chance but just can't get it to go and has to settle for a par.

Huge chance missed for Scheffler

It does feel as though that is a huge chance missed for Scottie Scheffler, who is unable to convert for a birdie at the 17th with his long putt just coming up a little too short.

He has to settle for a par and is still 11-under with one hole to go.

That's it for Henley

Russell Henley's final round at the 2026 Masters is done and dusted, with the American hitting a par putt at the 18th to finish with a four-under 68.

He is tied fourth alongside Cameron Young and Tyrell Hatton and is three shots behind Rory McIlroy at the front.

Young misses for birdie

Cameron Young's birdie putt isn't accurate enough as he hits it too hard and rolls a couple of feet beyond the hole.

But he does avoid disaster by knocking an impressive response for par. He remains 10-under with four holes to go.

26 mins ago22:59 Kieran King

Rose back to tied second

Justin Rose is not going down without a fight and he is now back tied second on 11-under par.

After rolling an inch-perfect putt down the green, he holds his nerve to convert for birdie at the 15th.

He is now level with Scottie Scheffler and two behind the leader Rory McIlroy.

Hatton on final Masters round

Tyrell Hatton has admitted he is "proud" with his six-under par 66 during his final round at the Masters.

"I'm just really happy with the back nine that I put together," Hatton told Sky Sports. "I'm proud to shoot another round in the 60s and that was my goal today.

"If you'd asked me before I tee'd off, it would have been to find a cold beer and watch the end of the golf but now I'm going to have to find a tv without a cold beer and see what happens."

Scheffler misses chance

It's not happening for Scottie Scheffler right now, with the world No.1 missing ANOTHER chance for a bridie.

He cannot putt for a bridie at the par five and instead has to settle for 10th successive par.

He has been unable to close the gap at the top with Scheffler tied-sixth and down at nine-under.

Five in a row for Morikawa

That is sensational from Collin Morikawa who moves alongside Scottie Scheffler to nine-under par with his fifth birdie in a row.

Another dropped shot for Rose

Nick Faldo is worried that the "pressure" of the Masters is getting to Justin Rose, as he drops another shot at the 12th to leave him 10-under and one behind the front.

"The pressure of The Masters!" Faldo told Sky Sports.

"You've got to keep your hands moving, keep it going, but when you're maybe thinking of other things, it's a lot of pressure.

"That was a shocker that Rose wasn't able to handle that one."

McIlroy misses chance

Huge chance to tie with Justin Rose missed for Rory McIlroy, but he misses a six-feet birdie putt to settle for a par.

Rose the outright leader

Wow, what a final round this is turning out to be for Justin Rose, who is now the outright leader at Augusta after his birdie at the seventh and Cameron Young's bogey at the sixth.

McGinley on McIlroy

Paul McGinley has backed Rory McIlroy to bounce back after blowing a six-shot lead at the Masters.

McIlroy was six shots in front at the top of the leaderboard but starts his final round level on eleven-under par alongside Cameron Young.

"I think McIlroy lost a little bit of impetus yesterday, there is no doubt, losing a six-shot lead," McGinley told Sky Sports.

"But there is nobody better at bouncing back. He's certainly a factor.

"It being the last day of The Masters, in contention, in the last group, that inspiration will be there.

"The mistake of yesterday was letting everybody back in... the likes of Scheffler. He was done and dusted after two rounds if Rory had shot a 69 or 68 yesterday.

"He's invited a bit of a spring today, and so he's got to sprint now if he's going to win."

More from Southgate

Gareth Southgate has urged for "perspective" when talking about Rory McIlroy blowing a six-shot lead at the Masters and has backed him to turn it around.

McIlroy is tied at the top alongside Cameron Young ahead of his final round at Augusta on Sunday. The duo are eleven-under with Sam Burns one shot behind in third.

"I think perspective is a huge thing," Southgate told Sky Sports. "Everyone's talking about him blowing a six-shot lead but he's one over par. He hung in there, recovered from the dropped shots. There were that many good players behind him, some of them were going to play well."He might feel over four rounds, if that's his bad one, he's in a good place."

Faldo impressed with Young

Nick Faldo has been impressed with Cameron Young's performance at the Masters so far, with the American level at the top of the leaderboard alongside Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy blew a six-shot lead in his third round on Saturday to leave himself level on eleven-under par with Young heading into the final round.

"We did predict Rory’s lead would be less than six, but I didn’t think we’d have an actual lead change on the golf course at some stage yesterday, and here he is now tied," Faldo said.

"There are so many guys stacked up behind him, the weather is great, traditional hole locations, so they all know what to do.

"I’m so impressed with Cam Young. Four over on the front nine and now here he is leading. He has just kept pushing forward, played incredibly aggressive when he won The Players, I was very impressed with that as well."

How does the Green Jacket ceremony work if there's a back-to-back Masters winner?

The Defending Champion: Rory McIlroy is one of the men to beat at Augusta National after his historic victory last spring. He has returned this year looking to become the first repeat winner in over two decades.

The Traditional Handover: Under normal circumstances, the previous year's champion is responsible for helping the new winner into their Green Jacket. This symbolic gesture is a cornerstone of the ceremony held on the 18th green, but what happens if someone goes back-to-back?

The Back-to-Back Challenge: A logistical puzzle arises when a golfer wins consecutive titles, as McIlroy may do, because they cannot technically present the jacket to themselves. This rare feat has only occurred three times in the long history of the Masters.

Rory McIlroy comment dismissed by Cameron Young

Cameron Young has admitted he does not expect to be the "fan favourite" at the Masters today as he bids to prevent Rory McIlroy from retaining his title. The American sits at 11-under heading into the final day of the major alongside McIlroy and is determined to claim his first major trophy at Augusta National.

However, Young is under no illusion that the stands will be roaring his name. Asked if he'd be the fan favourite over McIlroy, he said: "I don't get the sense I'll be the fan favourite.

"But yeah, I feel like the support, some fans that cheer for me, have gotten louder over the last year. It will still be lopsided, I think. Rory's kind of a world favourite in the golf world."

Despite acknowledging the vast number of supporters willing McIlroy to defend his crown, Young concedes he would sooner be battling the Northern Irishman for the Green Jacket now than he would have done in 2025. He added: "A year ago, if I'd been in the same situation, there would have been very little, and now there's probably a little more. So I'll take what I can get, and I'll be happy with that."

Rory McIlroy's comment to golf rival at Masters left Shane Lowry shocked

Rory McIlroy's cheeky jibe at JJ Spaun was deemed 'too soon' after he overcame the American golfer ahead of his Masters victory in 2025. McIlroy stands on the brink of further glory as he jointly leads at Augusta Nationalheading into Sunday's final round.

Speaking on GOLF's Subpar podcast at the time, the American revealed how Rory's remarks at the traditionally jovial event cut him to the quick. He said: "[Rory's] like, 'Are you doing a play-off for the Par-3 Contest?'" I'm like, yeah, I guess.

"And he's like, 'Better get the club right this time.' That hurt, that hit me deep. Shane Lowry was there, he's like, 'F*****g hell, Rory.' Granted, it was a little rinky-dink par-3, but doesn't matter, but it was still a little too soon to hear that. [The wound] was not healed yet."

Spaun channelled the frustration he felt at The Players, along with McIlroy's cheeky remark, to drive himself towards a major triumph. Speaking ahead of his US Open victory, the 35-year-old said: "The Players was sort of a springboard into self-belief. But to do that at The Players, a course where I'd never done well historically, and to go head-to-head with Rory on Sunday, and then the playoff was great for my confidence. Sadly, I didn't win, but it was brilliant for me to lean back on that experience."

Scottie Scheffler refuses to answer 'awful' question after career-low Masters round

Scottie Scheffler produced a career-low round at the Masters on Saturday, but hit back at a reporter who asked him a "terrible question" moments after carding a 65.

Moments after Scheffler's media session commenced, he faced an awkward opening question. "That was a 65 today. What did it feel like it could have or should have been?" the reporter asked.

"That's just a terrible question. Next question. Awful," he replied, before laughing in disbelief.

Another reporter then intervened and asked: "What enabled you to go low today as compared to maybe the last couple of days?"

"Yeah, I hit it really nice today," Scheffler said. "I felt like I was very sharp with the irons. Got it up there. Gave myself a lot of opportunities. I felt like I took advantage of those on the front nine, and then back nine, I did a lot of good things.

"Was really, really close to seeing a lot go in. Trying to think. It's, like, hit two good shots into 10, a really nice putt, just breaks a little bit more. Birdied 11. Good things on 12. Hit the fairway on 13. Get a mud ball. Didn't hit what I felt like was a good bunker shot, and 14 was another good putt, and 15, like, ball just barely goes further.

"Get a little gust downwind, and fortunately, today it didn't go all the way into the hazard, but still left me with a pretty difficult pitch. But like I said, I did what I needed to do. Went out and executed to give myself some opportunities, and more of that tomorrow, and I think I'll be in a good spot."

Rory McIlroy not ruthless and 'is human'

BBC correspondent Ian Carter claims McIlroy simply doesn't have that ruthless edge, saying: "It's so rare to see a player shut the door on a major in the way Tiger Woods did.

'Seven guys who genuinely have a chance to win'

Sir Nick Faldo believes McIlroy's inconsistency has handed a glimmer of hope to seven other stars.

"I think Rory’s game is just a little inconsistent, as we saw today," Faldo acknowledged. "I’ve got to look at Cam Young, the way he’s just stormed his way through the week after a bad start.

"He’s obviously got a lot of confidence from winning the players. There’s less negativity in his game. Maybe Shane. He’s got his best buddy. Wouldn’t he like to do something. J-Day has a shot, Rosey’s on a mission after last year.

"Scottie Scheffler, remember what he did at the Olympics when he was way out of it, so he’s a serious danger man. There are seven guys who genuinely have a chance to win tomorrow."

McIlroy's reaction after letting his lead slip

"I knew today wasn’t going to be easy," he said. "The quality of the chasing pack was very obvious, and a lot of the guys went out and played superb golf, starting with Scottie, and then Cam, and everyone else.

"I didn’t quite have it today. Even from the first hole, making that sort of soft bogey. I was doing my best to hang on. I scrambled a lot on the front nine. I would have wanted to be in a better position going into tomorrow starting with a six-shot lead, but I still have a great chance.

"I’m in the final group, which is exactly where you want to be. I wish I had a little bit more of a cushion, but I’m going to go to the range here and try to figure it out.

The 36-year-old continued: "It’s amazing (to have the opportunity). That was the goal coming in here. I still have a great chance but if I’m going to win tomorrow, I’m going to have to be a little bit better than I was today."
