It didn’t take Carlos Alcaraz to get back into the winning circle in 2025 as he claimed success at the Rotterdam Open on Sunday afternoon.

The Spaniard came out on top against the ever-improving Alex de Minaur. The Aussie has enjoyed a brilliant week in reaching the final in the Netherlands and gave Alcaraz a run for his money in the final.

It was the four-time Grand Slam winner who prevailed, however. He came through 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to win the title and get himself a first prize in 2025 after losing to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final of the Australian Open.

Alcaraz is a very likeable player on the ATP Tour. He’s very much the future of professional tennis when it comes to the men’s game and he showcased his quality to oust De Minaur in this one.

Carlos Alcaraz sends message to Alex de Minaur after beating him at Rotterdam Open

For De Minaur there is clear progress in his game. Although he was blown away by Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open, the Aussie is improving all of the time and he stood toe-to-toe with Alcaraz here.

The Spaniard was impressed and after the game, he said in his on-court interview: “I just want to start talking about Alex. Congratulations for a fantastic tournament. All the success you are doing great work together with your team. Congratulations for everything. I am always wishing you all the best and I am happy to see you at the top, so congratulations for everything.”

There is often a lot of respect on the tour, especially between the top players. De Minaur actually returned the favour to Alcaraz and it’s clear that he’s a player who he is trying to take little bits from as he continues to develop.

He said: “Carlos, congratulations man. Too good again, to you and your whole team. You are an incredible person, we have known each other for a long time and we always have some fun battles and I enjoyed my time very much on court today, so thank you and well done for the week.”

Alcaraz will hope to reach Roland Garros in top-form

The player who has already proved he can win the big tournaments will want more Grand Slams to his total this year. Indeed, Roland Garros is a place where he should thrive and he will defend his crown there in May.

The Spaniard is going to now put all of his efforts into reaching top condition by the time the French Open comes around and he won’t want to let Sinner get another big title to his name at that tournament.

Alcaraz was the favourite to defeat De Minaur once the Rotterdam Open Final had been decided. However, few might have foreseen the Australian making such a fist of the game.

The youngster showed all of his mettle to emerge victorious, however. Now, he will want to continue this fine form and look forward to playing in more tournaments and lifting more trophies as the year progresses.
