James McFadden weighs in on Auston Trusty's red card for Celtic against Hibernian

Whatever your views on Auston Trusty’s red card, one thing is for sure: it turned the tide of the game for Celtic against Hibernian.

What’s even more frustrating is that it all stemmed from a Celtic corner, so some would suggest that it was pretty unnecessary, as David Gray’s side went on to secure their first win at Parkhead since 2010.

Whilst some, including Ally McCoist, think that Trusty shouldn’t have been sent off, James McFadden thinks his actions were ‘utter madness.’

There is no doubt that Jamie McGrath did all he could to make the most of the situation, including going to ground like he had been hit over the head with a baseball bat.

James McFadden is critical of Auston Trusty after his red card against Hibernian

This red card falls into the category of ‘violent conduct’, and how Trusty was seemingly far too aggressive when he smacked McGrath’s arm after the Hibs man was grabbing him by the shoulder.

That was noted by McFadden, who stated that it’s ‘the force’ in which Trusty used that makes it all the worse, and how he can have ‘no complaints’, as he told Sky Sports Football (22/02/26).

“The thing is, people might look at it and say, ‘How is it violent conduct because of where he has caught him?’” said McFadden.

“But the force in it. He actually makes contact, and it’s utter madness from Auston Trusty that he feels that’s acceptable that he could do that. He can have no complaints.”

Celtic should appeal Trusty’s red card

When Trusty was sent off against Hearts for bringing down the last man last month, Celtic appealed that call, but the decision stood, and he was suspended.

Celtic have nothing to lose if they opt to appeal this latest one, because they probably have more of a chance of winning that appeal.
