Sanju Samson has won the men’s ICC Player of the Month award for March 2026 following his decisive performances for the Indian cricket team in the T20 World Cup.Samson won the award ahead of Indian teammate Jasprit Bumrah and South African batter Connor Esterhuizen.The 31-year-old was named the Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup 2026 as he made his mark when it mattered most, smashing match-winning knocks in the virtual quarter-final against the West Indies in Kolkata, as well as the semi-final and final.Samson followed up his unbeaten 97 against the West Indies with scores of 89 apiece against England in the semis in Mumbai and against New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad.The wicketkeeper-batter was a key figure in helping India become the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. The win also made India the first country to lift the trophy on home soil.“Winning the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible feeling, especially as it comes during what has been the most unforgettable phase of my cricketing journey,” Sanju Samson said. “Playing a part in India’s triumph at the Men’s T20 World Cup was truly a dream realised, and it took some time for the magnitude of that moment to fully sink in.”Sanju Samson, who is currently ranked 20th in the ICC rankings for T20 batters, has scored 1399 runs for India in 62 T20I appearances at an average of 28.55 and strike rate of over 150. He has also scored three centuries in the format.The right-handed opening batter has also carried his T20I form into the Indian Premier League and recently slammed 115 not out against Delhi Capitals for Chennai Super Kings to register the first individual hundred in IPL 2026.Samson was named the ICC Player of the month following a vote conducted among global fans registered on the official ICC website and a specialist panel comprising former international players and media representatives.
