The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup is supposed to be a time of joy for the winners. However, if India is crowned the winner, there will be sadness too, as Rinku Singh’s Father has passed away.

Rinku Singh’s Father Loses Battle With Cancer

Within 24 hours of India defeating Zimbabwe, which keeps their World Cup hopes alive, Rinku gets devastating news. The news of Rinku Singh’s father’s passing was shared on X by former Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh.

“Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh,” Harbhajan wrote. “This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones.”

“May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family.

Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, had stage-four liver cancer at the time of his passing. According to DNA India, his father had been unwell for a period of time and was receiving care at the Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. Sadly, his condition worsened, and he needed to be put on ventilator support.

Tributes Pour In For Family & Friends.

Following the announcement of his passing, many tributes began flooding social media for the Singh family.

“Rinku Singh’s father passed away.– Condolences to his whole family,” wrote one user on X.

Another wrote, “Rinku Singh’s father is no more after battling stage 4 cancer. – Everyone remember this video, where he was supplying cylinders even after Rinku Singh made debut for India. – He worked hard till the time he could, he seen his son grow big. He didn’t deserve cancer, it was his time to relax & enjoy but one can’t do anything against destiny. Om Shanti.”

“Rinku Singh’s father has passed away. Om Shanti. May God give strength to Rinku and his family during this difficult time,” wrote another user.

“Condolences to Rinku and the family. For him to go back to Chennai despite what was happening at home shows exemplary commitment and courage. Wish him well and prayers with him and the family at the irreparable loss,” another fan wrote.

Rinku Singh Left T20 Cricket World Cup to Visit Father

Earlier in the week, on February 24, 2026, Rinku left Team India to spend time with his father.

“India batter Rinku Singh has flown back home due to a medical emergency in the family,” The Times of India.com wrote on February 24th. “It is reliably learnt that his father was undergoing cancer treatment for over a year, and his condition has deteriorated in the last few days.”

India Defeats Zimbabwe Before the Singh Tragedy

Hours before this tragedy, India secured a much-needed victory in the Super 8 phase of the T20 World Cup.

They successfully defeated Zimbabwe by 256/4 to 184/6. Rinku was with the team, but he did not participate in the match.

India plays its last Super 8 match on March 1, 2026, against West Indies. They hope to earn a victory to secure an opportunity to defend their World Cup title and win for Singh and his family.
