Chelsea were denied top spot in the Premier League as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton at Goodison Park.

Enzo Maresca’s men would have moved into first place ahead of Liverpool with a win, albeit only temporarily with the Reds playing Tottenham later on Sunday, but they couldn’t find a way through Everton’s stern defence.

The visitors dominated large parts of the first half, seeing 76.2% possession and having eight attempts to Everton’s two. It remained goalless at the break, though, despite Nicolas Jackson hitting the woodwork and Malo Gusto having an effort cleared off the line.

Chelsea seemed to run out of ideas in the second half, though, only having another four attempts at goal.

Chelsea are undefeated in their last nine games in the Premier League, with their last joint longest unbeaten streak from 27 January 2021 to 13 March 2021.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of October, Everton have kept seven clean sheets in the Premier League, the most of any team across Europe’s big five leagues. The Toffees have kept five clean sheets across their last six league matches.

Everton put an end to Chelsea’s 15-match scoring run in the Premier League today, with the Blues failing to score for the first time in the league since a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on the opening day of the season.

Jordan Pickford’s yellow card today was his 20th in the Premier League for Everton, four more than any other goalkeeper for the Toffees in the competition. In fact, since Pickford’s debut for Everton (August 2017), Ederson (23) is the only keeper to have been booked more times than Pickford.

Despite having 12 shots, Chelsea accumulated an xG of just 0.77 today, their lowest in any of their 17 Premier League matches this season and the fourth-lowest xG overall by a team to have had 12+ shots this term.
