Harbhajan trolled for IPL commentary, gets into war of words with fan

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh faced backlash over his commentary during the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), leading to a heated exchange with cricket fans on social media platform X.

The controversy began when a cricket meme account criticised Harbhajan, along with Virender Sehwag and Navjot Singh Sidhu, for their on-air analysis, or the lack of it, during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and SunRisers Hyderabad. The account compared the Indian commentators with Ian Bishop and criticised the lack of knowledge and depth in their comments.

This did not sit well with Harbhajan, who decided to escalate the situation. He called the account a dog and made inflammatory remarks.

“When an elephant walks through the market, dogs bark a thousand times,” he wrote in Hindi, using abusive language, before asking the user to shut up and leave.

In response, the meme page intensified the exchange by bringing up Harbhajan’s past rivalry with Ravichandran Ashwin, claiming that his career declined due to jealousy and suggesting a similar fate for his commentary career.

“Turbanator nahi commentary ke liye t*rror hai tu,” the user added, further provoking the former off-spinner.

The remark did not sit well with Harbhajan, who hit back with harsher words in an attempt to shut down the troll. “Dogs can’t digest ghee, and a loser like you can’t stomach the reply. Get lost, Tommy,” he wrote.

The exchange triggered a wave of similar comments on the platform, with Harbhajan continuing to respond strongly to trolls.

One such post featured a picture of him alongside Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra during a commentary stint, captioned “these three clowns” with laughing emojis.

“Choose one of them as your father,” Harbhajan replied, further fuelling the online spat.

The issue continues to highlight the disparity in perception between Hindi and English commentary, particularly around the depth of analysis offered by both. What began with trolling directed at Aakash Chopra during the T20 World Cup 2026, has now cascaded into a wider debate, with Harbhajan Singh becoming the latest to be drawn into the controversy.
