Liverpool Tell 'Unstoppable' Target They Will Build Team Around Him

Liverpool have reportedly promised Florian Wirtz that if he joins them this summer, he'll become the figurehead of a new team at Anfield.

German outlet Kicker reports that Wirtz has been "greatly impressed" by the Reds after a meeting between the player's family and the newly crowned Premier League champions. He's expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer amid interest from both the Merseysiders and Bayern Munich.

Manchester City have reportedly pulled out of the race for the 22-year-old, which leaves Bayern and Liverpool to scrap it out for one of the hottest prospects in Europe. He's set to cost significantly more than €100 million (£85 million), but the Anfield outfit are prepared to go "to the limit".

Wirtz's stock has grown at Leverkusen, emerging as one of the most talented attacking midfielders in the Bundesliga, who call him "unstoppable". He played a key role in his side's title-winning 2023-24 campaign, in which Xabi Alonso's team went unbeaten.

The 29-cap Germany international is one of the poster boys of German football alongside Bayern's Jamal Musiala. That could play a role in his decision over his future, as a move to Anfield would give him the chance to shine in the English top-flight.

Wirtz appears to be the Reds' choice to become their new talisman for years to come, with Mohamed Salah, as brilliant as he might be, heading into his mid-thirties.
