Iran FA indicates plans for World Cup participation

The president of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, confirmed the team will continue preparations.

Iran faced Nigeria yesterday, while a second friendly against Costa Rica will take place four days later in Turkey.

As per Sky Sports, Taj said, “The national team is holding a training camp in Turkey, and we will play two friendly matches there.” This shows that Iran is prioritising on-field readiness despite political statements.

Taj emphasised the distinction between their political stance and their soccer commitments. “We will boycott America, but we will not boycott the World Cup,” he added.
