Bangladesh have refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 after the BCCI instructed KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman from their squad owing to the India-Bangladesh tensions arising from the killing of Hindus in the country. They have written to ICC twice regarding this. The apex cricketing body has requested BCB to rethink its decision. But the Bangladesh board have refused to oblige. Amidst this standoff, the BCCI has remained silent. Now, secretary Devajit Saikia has finally spoken regarding this matter.

Speaking to ANI, Devajit Saikia said that the BCCI is not in the loop regarding any communication between BCB and ICC. Hence, they are totally unaware.

“As of now, BCCI is not in the loop regarding any communication between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the ICC, so we are totally unaware. Once we receive information, we will keep you updated," the BCCI secretary said.

The BCB, in a statement on Tuesday (December 13), said that the ICC had requested them to reconsider their stance of not travelling to India

“During the discussions, the BCB reaffirmed its position regarding the decision not to travel to India, citing security concerns. The Board also reiterated its request for the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India," BCB said in a statement.

“While the ICC highlighted that the tournament itinerary has already been announced and requested the BCB to reconsider its stance, the Board’s position remains unchanged. Both parties agreed that discussions will continue to explore possible solutions," it said.

“The BCB remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its players, officials, and staff while engaging constructively with the ICC to address the matter," the statement further read.

Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul on Monday claimed there was “no atmosphere to play” the T20 World Cup in India, citing a purported “letter” from the ICC’s security team, according to state news agency BSS. However, ICC sources clarified to ANI that independent risk assessments conducted by internationally recognised security experts do not support this claim, adding that the overall security risk for the tournament in India has been rated low to moderate.
