Santner returns as MI look to tame Delhi's flat deck

Brimming with confidence after a record chase to kick off their IPL campaign - a first in 14 years - Mumbai Indians have received another timely boost. Mitchell Santner has rejoined the squad after an extended personal break and looks set to walk back into the XI as MI face Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the season's first afternoon fixture on Saturday (April 4).

A 200-plus vs 200-plus game - on a ground with short boundaries - often offers little margin for the bowlers, and Delhi is unlikely to be any more forgiving. The venue has consistently ranked among the most batting-friendly conditions, putting an even greater premium on control through the middle overs. That's where MI would hope Santner's return could prove pivotal, especially since they struggled in that phase at home.

Tactics & Match-ups: No batter in the IPL has scored three or more centuries against a single opponent more often than KL Rahul has against the Mumbai Indians. After struggling for a solid opening platform last season and again in this edition's opener, Delhi will be hoping their senior batter can translate his strong first-class form into T20 success, especially against the opponent that seems to bring out the very best in him.

"Credit to him. He had a plan, which obviously involved a few of the guys in our setup who were part of this training. He knew what he needed to do. Even though he hasn't played competitive cricket, he did quite a bit of skills work off-season whenever he had the time. Then he joined us on day one of our camp. We had a chat on how we wanted to start and we did a lot of simulations. We played quite a few practice matches and he played all of them. For someone who has played the game for such a long time, it's muscle memory... It was a good start for him in the first game and hopefully he can continue that. I know it's been tough, but he's focused, he's relaxed, and he's contributing in a very positive way, which is great for us." "It's very important for spinners to back their strengths. Whenever batters put you under pressure, spinners tend to [pivot] and look for a safer option to get out of that situation. But, I believe that you should back your strengths... If you are an attacking spinner, don't let that go. Because that is your identity and if you are taking wickets while doing that work for the team, there can be nothing better. Sometimes you'll get wickets, sometimes you don't. But, I feel, your mindset should always be attacking." - DC's Kuldeep Yadavon how to proper as a bowler in increasingly batting-friendly conditions
