Australia defeated India by 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The sub-continent team failed to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship for the first time. After the series loss, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, instructed the players to play in Ranji Trophy matches in order to get a place in the national team. However, Sarfaraz Khan, who was a part of the squad for the BGT will miss the games due to an injury.

According to The Indian Express, he suffered a ribs injury during the Australia tour and is out of the contest between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir from January 23.

“He is carrying a ribs injury and has informed the MCA that won’t be available for the next Ranji Trophy game. As he is a centrally contracted player, the National Cricket Academy will look after him and their medical panel will inform us,” a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official told the publication.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has made himself available and will represent Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir. He informed the Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi.

“He told Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi that he will play the next round of the Ranji Trophy. The selection committee will announce the Mumbai team,” an MCA official said.
