Harry Brook was batting on 19 runs from 21 balls when he tried to play a big shot against Prasidh Krishna on the first ball of the 35th over of England’s second innings on Sunday (August 3). But the right-handed batter failed to connect with the ball properly, and it went straight to Mohammed Siraj, who was fielding near the boundary ropes.

Siraj, who is one of the best fielders in the Indian team, completed Brook’s catch clearly, but after that he failed to control his balance and touched the boundary rope with the ball in his hand.

The shot, which should have resulted in Brook’s wicket, instead added six runs to his tally.

After the right-handed batter from Yorkshire, who came out to bat at No. 5 in the second innings for the hosts, was given a lifeline by Siraj, Krishna couldn’t believe his luck, and his shell-shocked reaction after the missed chance caught everyone’s attention.

England need to score 374 runs in the second innings to win the ongoing fifth Test against India at The Oval and win the series with the scoreline of 3-1. The English team scored 50 runs for the loss of Zak Crawley’s wicket in 13.5 overs on Saturday evening. The right-handed opening batter was clean bowled by Siraj on the last ball of the third day’s play.

On Sunday in the first session, English batters added 114 runs to the team’s tally in 24.1 overs for the loss of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope’s wickets. Duckett was sent back to the pavilion by Akash Deep for 54 runs. He was caught by KL Rahul in the slips. Pope, on the other hand, scored 27 runs from 34 balls as a No. 3 batter. He was trapped in front of the wickets by Siraj.

At the end of the first session on Day 4, Joe Root was batting on 23 runs, and Brook was on 38 runs from 30 balls.
