In a video going viral on the internet from Ganpati celebrations in Mumbai, Rohit can be seen requesting fans with folded fans not to chant 'Mumbai cha Raja Rohit Sharma'.

Indian men’s ODI cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, after retiring from Tests and T20Is, is spending time with his family these days, which resides in Mumbai. The 38-year-old right-handed batter, who led India to two ICC titles in the last year and a half, was recently seen taking blessings from Lord Ganesha during the Ganpati Puja in Mumbai.

A clip from the Ganpati celebrations in Mumbai is now going viral on the internet, in which Rohit can be seen asking fans not to chant “Mumbai cha Raja Rohit Sharma" with folded hands.

Rohit, who has more than 11,000 runs to his name in ODI cricket, was last seen in action for Team India in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which was played against the Kiwis in Dubai on March 9, 2025. In that fixture, Rohit top-scored for the Men in Blue and helped them win the Champions Trophy title for the third time in 27 years.

For his 76-run knock in the summit clash of the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit also won the Player of the Match award.

Rohit will next be seen in action for India during the three-match ODI series against the Australian team. Team India will travel to Australia next month to take part in a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series. The ODI series will start on October 19 at Optus Stadium in Perth, and the next two 50-over matches are scheduled to take place in Adelaide (October 23) and Sydney (October 25).

Rohit on cusp of creating history

Rohit has played a total of 499 international matches for Team India across formats in the last 18 years, and if he manages to play at least one match in the away series against Australia, then he will become the fifth Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (664), Virat Kohli (550), MS Dhoni (535) and Rahul Dravid (504) to represent the country in at least 500 matches.

Rohit will also have a chance to complete 20,000 runs in international cricket during the away series. As of now he has 19,700 runs to his credit in 499 games.

He is also 54 runs away from breaking Sourav Ganguly’s record of 11,221 runs and becoming the third-highest run-getter for India in ODIs.

In ODIs, Rohit has hammered 344 sixes in 273 matches. He needs to score at least eight more maximums to break Shahid Afridi’s record and take the No. 1 position.
