Sports247 reports that the seven-time Formula One racing champion made this disclosure while advocating for a major motorsport championship to be staged in an African country.

He reckoned that European and Asian countries should give some attention to staging a major car racing competition in Africa, which he opined is currently being neglected.

While noting that the only time the continent hosted a Formula One race was way back in 1993 in South Africa, Hamilton added that he is always making a case for a return to those days because of his ancestral origin.

Hamilton declared, “I’m half African. I’ve got roots from a few different places there. Benin, Senegal, Nigeria. It’s something I’m really proud of, that part of the world.

“I think it is the most beautiful part of the world, and I don’t like that the rest of the world owns so much of it and takes so much from it, and no one speaks about it. I’m really looking forward.

“Hoping that the people who are running those different countries come together and take Africa back. Take it back from the French, take it back from the Spanish, from the Portuguese and the British.”
