COLLEGE STATION — Things couldn't have looked much worse at halftime for No. 3 Texas A&M, trailing 30-3 and appearing well on its way to a disastrous first loss. All it took was the biggest comeback in the history of Texas A&M football, as well as one of the biggest in Southeastern Conference history as well.

The Aggies scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter on quarterback Marcel Reed touchdown passes and added an EJ Smith touchdown run in the fourth quarter to rally for a 31-30 win Saturday at Kyle Field over the South Carolina Gamecocks, keeping them on track for a spot in the SEC championship game and College Football Playoff field.

A key part to that 28-0 second-half explosion: A&M's defense, which shut down South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and saved the win by stopping the Gamecocks on their final drive, thanks to back-to-back sacks.

Reed was 14 of 30 for 330 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The running game didn't generate much, but the Aggies got two huge receiving days from KC Concepcion (seven catches for 158 yards) and Ashton Bethel-Roman (4-139-1), who broke open a 76-yard gain in the third quarter to set up one a touchdown.

The Aggies sacked Norris, who has been sacked more than any other quarterback in the country, four times.

Next up for the No. 3 Aggies (10-0, 7-0) is a home game vs. Samford next Saturday and then the regular-season finale Nov. 28 at No. 10 Texas.

Dalton Brooks got to LaNorris Sellers on a sack for a big 10-yard loss on the first play out of the 2-minute warning timeout, forcing South Carolina to call its final timeout with 1:54 left. On third-and-12, Cashius Howell — who's leading the SEC in sacks — added a 4-yard loss, forcing a fourth-and-16 with 1:15 left. Sellers, unable to find anyone downfield, was flushed out of the pocket and corralled by Howell.

Texas A&M, protecting its 31-30 lead, takes over with 1:07 left and the Gamecocks out of timeouts.

2:00, 4Q: Gamecocks are driving in closing minutes

Whew. The last couple of minutes at Kyle Field have been wild:

• What looked to be a sure field goal or touchdown drive for Texas A&M was foiled when freshman Jamarion Morrow attempted an awkward backwards pass to Marcel Reed on third-and-goal. The Gamecocks recovered, though it took a video review to uphold the call.

• On South Carolina's ensuing possession LaNorris Sellers completed an 18-yard pass to D Brooks on fourth-and-6 from the Gamecocks' own 13-yard line with 2:26 left.

The game has stopped at the 2-minute warning. The Aggies lead 31-30 but the Gamecocks are driving: They have a first-and-10 at their own 31-yard line.

Do A&M fans believe in miracles? Maybe so after the Aggies take their first lead of the game, thanks to a 28-0 run. A 4-yard EJ Smith touchdown run caps off a 10-play, 99-yard drive. 31-30, A&M.

End 3rd quarter: South Carolina 30, Texas A&M 24

2:04, 3Q: Aggies score 21 unanswered

Perhaps unbelievable, given the first half, the Aggies are down just one score thanks to 21 unanswered points. A 76-yard pass from Reed to Bethel-Roman sets up a 14-yard touchdown pass to tight end Nate Boerkircher to cut the lead to 30-24.

4:18, 3Q: Aggies add another, momentum swinging

A&M continues to scrap back; this time, a 39-yard touchdown pass from Reed to Ashton Bethel-Roman cuts the South Carolina lead to just 13. A seven-play, 70-yard drive that included a second fourth-down conversion of the quarter brings the score to 30-17.

11:26, 3Q: Aggies score on opening drive of 2nd half

A&M needed to show fight after a tough first half of football season, and they did just that. The Aggies covered 75 yards in eight plays, including converting a fourth-and-12 to score their first touchdown of the game. 30-10, South Carolina.

The onslaught continues with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Sellers to Nyck Harbor. 27-3, South Carolina.

It's been all South Carolina in the first half as the visiting team extends its lead to 20-3 at the halfway point of the second quarter. With a missed field goal and a fumble that led to a touchdown, A&M is beating no one but itself right now.

:00, 1Q: Fumble causes disaster for Aggies

A Marcel Reed fumble with the time expiring was returned for a touchdown and pushes the Gamecocks' lead to 17-3.

5:28, 1Q: South Carolina regains lead

Facing a third-and-8 on the 49-yard line, Sellers throws a touchdown pass to Vandrevius Jacobs to take the lead. Back-to-back scoring drives by South Carolina increase its lead to 10-3.

7:54, 1Q: Aggies even the score

After reaching the Gamecocks' red zone themselves, the Aggies settle for a game-tying field goal. Randy Bond's 40-yard attempt caps a seven-play, 52-yard drive highlighted by a 43-yard pass from Marcel Reed to KC Concepcion.

A 36-yard field goal finished a 10-play, 57-yard drive to start the game. South Carolina ran the ball four times, gaining 32 yards. Credit to A&M's defense for tightening up in the red zone and forcing a field goal, making it 3-0, Gamecocks.
