AFL Team Selection: Semi-final

Adelaide has made one change ahead of its semi-final match against Hawthorn, naming livewire forward Josh Rachele for the do-or-die clash.

Crows Senior Coach Matthew Nicks confirmed Rachele’s return to the media early on Thursday, after he had ticked every box in his recovery from a knee injury.

The 22-year-old has not played since sustaining a posterior capsular tear in his knee against Melbourne in Round 17.

Adelaide Head of Football Adam Kelly said Rachele’s inclusion came off the back of hard work and dedication to rehab.

“Josh comes back into the side after spending 10 weeks on the sidelines with what was a significant knee injury,” Kelly said.

“While a return during the finals series was possible from the outset, it became probable through his dedication to his rehabilitation, and the excellent management of our High Performance and Medical Team.

“Josh had been enjoying a career best season before injury, showcasing his ability to win and halve contests and to impact the game with ball in hand, not only the scoreboard but also the way in which he brings others into the game.

“His energy, enthusiasm and connection with our fans will be a welcomed addition.”

Utility Hugh Bond has been omitted.

Lachlan Murphy, Jordan Butts, and Billy Dowling have been named on the emergency list.

The Crows will name their substitute one hour before the first bounce.

Adelaide faces Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval on Friday at 7.10pm.

Free limited edition Crows cheer banners will be available for fans to collect at Adelaide Oval (all gates) ahead of Friday night’s game.

The semi-final clash is sold out, but if you missed out, there’s plenty of places around Adelaide showing the game, thanks to Coopers watch parties.
