Former Aussie player John Millman will be watching some of his closest friends go head to head shortly.

The mixed doubles final is an all-Aussie affair.

Kim Birrell and John-Patrick Smith take on compatriots Olivia Gadecki and John Peers on Rod Laver Arena.

"Even better for me is at least one (winner) is going to be from Queensland, because there are three Queenslanders playing in the final," Millman tells Nine.

"How good is this for Australian tennis? I love seeing the guys and the girls playing together.

"I love Olivia and I love John Peers, but I'm not someone who sits on the fence - I've got to say I'm going for JP Smith, my boy from Townsville, and Kimmy Birrell"
