Republic of Ireland Under-17 World Cup star Ade Solanke has joined Bournemouth on a long-term deal.

Solanke, who came through the Shamrock Rovers academy, joined Bournemouth's sister club FC Lorient in Ligue 1 at the beginning of 2025, featuring regularly for their Under-19 and reserve sides.

The left-back formally completed the move to the Premier League side following his 18th birthday last Friday.

"I am over the moon. I feel it's been a long time coming but I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get started," Solanke told the club website.

"With AFC Bournemouth being a Premier League club, a move like this is something I’ve dreamt of. I am grateful and I thank God, I am really happy."

Solanke started four of five games for Colin O'Brien's Under-17 side as they reached the last-16 in the World Cup in Qatar in November.

Elsewhere, former Ireland youth defender Cathal Heffernan (above) has joined League Two side Harrogate Town on a permanent move.

The ex-Cork City player has left the Newcastle academy after signing an 18-month contract with the Yorkshire club.

"I'm buzzing, It’s a massive move for me and my family and will be my first taste of men’s football, so I’m just really excited to get going.
