Caroline Wozniacki takes dig at ex-fiance Rory McIlroy as she watches him win Masters years after brutal split

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI took a dig at ex Rory McIlroy after watching him win the Masters.

Golf star McIlroy ended his Augusta nightmare by finally getting his hands on the sport’s top prize last weekend.

The Northern Irish ace saw off competition from Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff.

And McIlroy broke down in tears after being awarded with his coveted green jacket - becoming just the sixth golfer ever to earn a career Grand Slam in the process.

The ace celebrated in style with his wife Erica Stoll - just a year after they filed for divorce before a hasty U-turn - and their four-year-old daughter Poppy.

But one of McIlroy’s exes appeared to take aim at him with a cutting remark.

Danish tennis star Wozniacki and McIlroy were an item for three years between 2011 and 2014.

McIlroy and the Australian Open champion got engaged on New Year's Eve after a whirlwind romance, with Wozniaki posting: "Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! I said YES!!!!"

But they ended up abruptly cancelling their wedding plans and splitting just days after sending out invites when McIlroy broke up with Wozniacki in a three-minute phone call.

McIlroy said at the time that he "wasn't ready" for marriage.

He wrote in a statement: "There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people.

"The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.

"I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting."

McIlroy soon began dating now-wife Erica just months later in 2015, with the pair having first met at the Ryder Cup four years prior.

And Wozniacki has now revealed she rooted for a different golfer at the Masters, aiming a dig at McIlroy by claiming her choice “had a big chance of winning.”

The Dane, who is now married to ex-basketballer David Lee, told ESPN: “We pick one that we think has a big chance of winning, and that was Ludvig Aberg.”

Swedish star Aberg was in with a chance of joining McIlroy and Rose in Sunday's dramatic play-off, only to triple bogey the 18th hole.

Meanwhile, McIlroy and wife Erica put on a united front at the Masters.

The pair have been married for eight years but nearly called things off in 2024.

They filed for divorce as rumours swirled of McIlroy’s blossoming romance with CBS Sports presenter Amanda Balionis.

However, McIlroy and Erica decided to give things another go just weeks later and have remained together ever since.
