Jamie Carragher's previous prediction concerning Mohamed Salah's future suddenly looks all the more impressive after previous comments that could be considered harsh

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher's prophetic powers have been proven right about Mohamed Salah's future. That's after old comments came to light, illustrating the Kop legend was ahead of the curve in forecasting Salah's exit this summer.

It was recently confirmed that Reds great Salah will forego the final year of his contract and cut ties with Anfield at the end of this season. He'll leave as one of the most iconic players in Premier League history, though that's not enough to get Carragher invested in his farewell.

That's due to Carragher's hope that when the Premier League campaign is wrapping up, Arne Slot's side will still be fighting for Champions League honours. And the retired defender appeared somewhat confident that a second European crown would be the final piece in Salah's legacy.

Speaking on Monday Night Football in December, Carragher foretold: "I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season. The big thing in my mind is [what] are we going to see from now until the end of the season?"

At the time of those comments, Salah's future lay in an uncertain state after he lashed out against the club. The Egyptian, who was heading out to join his country for the Africa Cup of Nations, was one of numerous underperforming Liverpool players and had his commitment called into question.

Salah suggested he had been "thrown under the bus" after being dropped by manager Slot for several games. Liverpool were going through an alarmingly poor run of form at the time, leading Salah to suggest he was being scapegoated amid questions regarding his future in Liverpool.

Carragher was among those to criticise the forward's behaviour following his outburst in the wake of a 3-3 draw against Leeds. He has since rallied around the club legend, however, and backed Salah to guide the team to Champions League success, even despite their struggles in other competitions.

"The timing of Tuesday's announcement strikes me as both perfect and clever," he wrote for The Telegraph. "There will, inevitably, be retrospective suggestions that the decision is a year too late, and that it would have been better for all parties had he sought his farewell when the club won the Premier League trophy last May."

Carragher went on to say that by confirming his exit in advance, Salah "guarantees the kind of emotional, grand farewell" he deserves. However, he added that he wouldn't be joining in the Anfield fanfare, because there was still something much more important left to fight for.

"I have one final admission, however," he continued. "While I will celebrate his career, I have no wish to be part of a grand Anfield farewell after the club's final Premier League fixture in May. Every Liverpool fan has something far better and more dramatic in mind.

"Knowing Salah's mindset and competitive spirit, he will be setting his sights on the greatest of all possible goodbyes a week later: inspiring his team to victory in the Champions League final in Budapest. Do not bet against the perfect send-off."
