Jaqueline Cristian vs Maya Joint prediction

Jaqueline Cristian staged a fine comeback as she squeezed past Janice Tjen in the first-round of Indian Wells. The Romanian went a break up in the first set but Tjen reeled off three games in a row to take the lead. Cristian levelled the match in set two but was under pressure again as Tjen broke to go 3-0 up in the decider. Cristian broke back immediately and won a nervy tiebreak to win 4-6 6-4 7-6 (6) after two hours and 46 minutes.

She now faces Maya Joint. The Australian enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2025, but the start of this campaign has been a struggle for the 19-year-old. It started promisingly with a run to the quarter-finals in Adelaide, but she has since lost her last five matches in a row.

This is a rematch of the final in Rabat last year, with Joint winning in straight sets to claim her first tour-level title. However, her downturn in form is concerning, and Cristian will be encouraged by the fight she showed in her first-round match.
