Aggies Fall to Long Beach In Big West Play

The short story: UC Davis women's tennis narrowly lost to Long Beach State 3-4, with the team battling throughout the singles matches but ultimately unable to overcome the early setback of losing the doubles point.

Freshman Penelope Wong won her singles match after three sets and a tiebreaker.

Senior Daisy Maunupau won her singles match after three sets and a tiebreaker.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Aggies opened up the morning with doubles, where Daisy Maunupau and Mika Ikemori finished first, falling to their Beach opponents.

Next to finish was the pair of Claire Galerkin and Kaia Wolfe , who also fell to their opponents giving the doubles point to Long Beach State.

The doubles match of Solia Valentine and Polina Marakhtanova , went unfinished since Long Beach had already won the doubles point.

Onto singles, the first to finish was Valentine, who fell to her opponent in two quick sets making the score 0-2.

The next Aggie to fall was freshman Marakhtanova, who also went down after two sets.

At this point the Ags were down 0-3 and needed a win to pick up momentum.

Next to finish was Ikemori who grabbed that first win for the Aggies taking down her opponent in just two sets.

Building on that momentum, senior Maunupau also took down her Long Beach opponent after a grueling three set match.

With the score at 2-3, the next Aggie to finish was junior Maya Youssef , who also took her match to three sets and a tiebreaker, but could not come out with a win, giving the win to Long Beach.
