Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez are set to lock horns in the second semifinal of the Hong Kong Open on Saturday.

Mboko was leading sixth-seed Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 3-1 in the quarterfinal match when the Russian withdrew due to physical issues. The Canadian had defeated Talia Gibson and Alexandra Eala in the opening rounds in Hong Kong to reach back-to-back quarterfinals on the Asia swing.

The 21-year-old is enjoying her breakout season, with a 55-14 win-loss record in women's singles. She pulled off multiple upsets to clinch the Canadian Open, her maiden WTA title. After confirming a spot in the Hong Kong semifinals, Mboko rose to the top 20 of the WTA singles rankings for the first time and became the top-ranked Canadian, surpassing her semifinal opponent, Leylah Fernandez.

Fernandez is seeded second in Hong Kong and is the firm favorite for the title after fellow Canadian Belinda Bencic's quarterfinal exit. Fernandez overcame Sorana Cirstea with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals after dominant wins against Rebecca Sramkova and Dalma Galfi in the opening two rounds at Victoria Park.

The former World No. 13 won the Japan Women's Open title in Osaka last week to continue her strong comeback on the Tour. She earlier clinched the Washington Open title to end her 21-month wait for the fourth WTA title.
