Is Neymar retiring in 2026? Brazilian star hints at December decision

The future of Neymar is once again under scrutiny. The Brazilian forward, now back at Santos FC, admitted he is uncertain about what lies ahead and did not rule out stepping away from football sooner than expected.

“I don’t know what will happen from now on. I don’t know about next year. December might come and I may want to retire. It will depend on what my heart tells me. Day by day. Step by step,” he said.

His remarks have fueled discussion about whether 2026 — or even the end of this year — could mark the end of his professional career.

Although he acknowledged he is not yet at peak fitness following knee surgery, he remains hopeful of representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
